Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM09211 - Produce drawings or models for industrial piping

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Determine work requirements

  1. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  2. Determine purpose, scope and information requirements for drawing or model
  3. Interpret available information relevant to work requirements, and identify and address further information needs
  4. Identify and prepare equipment required to complete work
  5. Apply relevant codes, standards and symbols used for pipe installation drawings or models
  6. Identify and access organisational files, templates and symbols required for work
  7. Identify environmental implications of inefficient systems and strategies for minimising impact

Produce drawings or models for installation of industrial piping systems

  1. Apply operating principles and specifications of piping systems and equipment to drawing or model
  2. Detail pipes, valves and auxiliary equipment
  3. Indicate vertical and horizontal offsets and hand wheel orientation
  4. Apply WHS and environmental factors to drawing detail
  5. Present drawing or model according to organisational requirements
  6. Produce process flow, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and isometric and spool drawings
  7. Produce orthogonal single and double-line arrangement drawings of pipe installation systems in accordance with engineer’s sketches
